LEX2000 Inc. Announces APL+Win 2.0 Application Development Tool For Windows 95

Atlanta, GA - July 23, 1996 — LEX2000 Inc., a provider of financial consolidation and reporting software and services, announced today the release of the Windows 95 and NT version of its APL financial programming language. The new product, called APL+Win 2.0, runs seamlessly on Windows 3.x platforms as well as 95 and NT.

“A unique and important strength of APL+Win 2.0 is that it gives developers the ability to use a single set of application code for all three Windows platforms,” said Robert F. Reisner, chairman and chief executive officer of LEX2000 Inc. “Especially because so many applications still have to straddle between Windows 3.x and 95, this gives APL developers and their clients yet another competitive advantage.

“The use of universal development code greatly reduces the time, cost and complexity of the program development process,” said Reisner, “and it gives end users a common application look regardless of which version of Windows they have. It also greatly simplifies their training, documentation and support activities.”

The APL financial programming language is widely used in the development of financial applications, especially financial analysis, insurance and actuarial applications.

LEX2000 is the only U.S. company providing APL language services for the Microsoft Windows 3.x, 95, and NT platforms. (IBM Corp. supplies APL language products for mainframe and OS/2 platform computers.) The LEX2000 family of APL+ products and services is used by hundreds of companies world wide, including Nationwide Insurance, MIT, MetLife, Coopers & Lybrand, E. I. DuPont, Chase Manhattan, Prudential, NASA, Swiss Re, Volvo, Levi Strauss, and Union Bank of Switzerland.

The initial Windows 95 version of APL+Win is release 1.8 and is immediately available. This version adds the popular Windows 95 controls to the APL language for all three Windows platforms: NT, Win95, and Windows 3.x. These controls include such features as “Treeview,” “Listview,” Selector control to provide “Property Sheets” and “Wizards” as well as “Status Bar,” “Spinner,” “Trackbar,” “Imagelist,” “Progressbar” and “Owner Drawn Buttons.”

Under Win95, developers have the ability to call 16bit DLLs and long file name support. Also distributed with the product are additional development aids such as calendar and date controls and sample utilities including an AVI movie player.

APL+Win release 2.0 will add support for OCX/ActiveX controls, the new standard for adding custom third-party controls to applications. APL+Win 2.0 will also include additional features such as “RichEdit” and an APL forms browser. APL+Win 2.0 will be available in the fourth quarter of 1996.

Prerelease orders for APL+Win 2.0 have been strong and are coming from a broad spectrum of APL language application developers, including the Principal Financial Group, SS&C Inc., Ryder Truck, ITT Hartford, Sun Life, Duke University, and the Naval Postgraduate School.

The new LEX2000 consolidation and financial reporting system for Windows 95 on display at the SoftEx Finance & Accounting trade show at the New York Hilton on July 23 and 24 uses the new APL+Win 2.0 product. The APL+Win 2.0 product will be demonstrated at the industry APL96 language conference in Lancaster, England, July 29 through August 1, and at the LEX2000 APL+ developers conference in Orlando, Florida, October 23 through October 25.
